原始语种摘要: The Caribbean consists of island chains surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, in addition to neighbouring mainland countries. The tropical climate and its historic and continued influx of both humans and animals from throughout the world have contributed to the region's plethora of vector-borne diseases (VBDs). Both human and animal VBDs are of health and economic importance to the Caribbean. Some of these are zoonotic, complicating control and elimination attempts. Although efforts have been ongoing for over a century in the identification and prevention of VBDs in the Caribbean, limited resources have curtailed VBD diagnosis, surveillance, control and research.
