We consider left-right symmetric model where quark multiplets and scalar fields transform under an additional family dependent global U(1) symmetry. The new charges are assigned in such a way that the dimension-4 Yukawa couplings are allowed only for the third family, providing masses for top and bottom quarks. Masses for the first and second family, and resulting Cabibbo–Kobayashi–Maskawa (CKM) rotations are only generated by operators of dimension-five, six or even higher order. Under the condition of having reasonable small values for new charges, a possible pattern leading to particular textures for up and down-type Yukawa matrices is obtained.
