This article addresses the news pamphlets in Latin America in colonial times. We start with a contribution towards a possible future catalogue of printed news texts in America, organized into three topics. Next, a brief study is carried out, which deals with the chronology of their production, authors, titles, types of discourse and forms of publication as well as the events that raised the most expectation, and the printing houses most commonly used. It may be concluded that, despite the existing problems with the production and circulation of written texts, the 17th century experienced a significant growth in printing. Also, the news pamphlets commonly published takes the form of not very extensive prose text with the author being unknown or not literate, and which recounts urban... festivities in celebration of both political and religious power.
