This paper presents the results of a study of the mass-to-charge composition of the plasma of a W-fuzz-cathode arc at a discharge duration of 250 µs. It has been found that the mean charge of tungsten ions in the arc plasma varies from +1 to +3 as the fuzz structure is destroyed. The formation of fuzz changes the electrical and thermal characteristics of the cathode material, resulting in a decrease in the electron temperature of the arc plasma and, hence, in its mean charge. In cases of complete destruction of a helium-induced tungsten fuzz, the relative content of helium ions in the arc plasma was observed to be higher for samples less exposed to helium plasma.
